Centre Court, Kildare Street on opening night 1890

This is how the centre court was dressed for the opening ceremony at 4 p.m. on 29th August 1890. The photograph shows the attendants, a policeman, a tradesman and an overseer. The Museum was opened by the Lord Lieutenant, the Earl of Zetland. The architect, Thomas Newenham Deane, was knighted and the director, Valentine Ball, was awarded a lesser honour on the occasion of the opening.
