Fan Brooch with Bird

Breda Haugh – Irish Jewellery Designer

The inspiration for this sterling silver brooch comes from ‘A Dubliner’s Collection of Asian Art’ exhibition in National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History.

'The style, elegant design, and gold of two of the Japanese fan paintings from the Bender Collection were the inspiration for me in creating this jewellery collection. From the Edo period (1600-1868 AD) - one of the fans depicts a bird and the other a Chrysanthemum - both with foliage against a gold background. They are of the Tosa School which was at its height in the eighteenth century, and is characterised by the gold background seen in these fans'. - Breda Haugh
