This sterling silver Dress Fastener Brooch was commissioned by the National Museum of Ireland from Breda Haugh, Dublin jeweller and goldsmith, and is hallmarked at Dublin Castle. The original sixth to seventh century brooch or 'latchet', held in the National Museum of Ireland - Kildare St, was made from copper-alloy with applied enamel. It's curvilinear decoration is in the late Iron Age La Tène style. This beautiful and interesting piece by Breda Haugh would add a distinctive La Tène style accent to any garment.
