The Sundisc Collection, commissioned by the National Museum from Breda Haugh, Dublin jeweller and designer, is made from sterling silver and hallmarked at Dublin Castle. The inspiration comes from the Early Bronze Age sun discs that can be seen in our Ór - Ireland's Gold exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology. Here you can see the origonal circular discs of sheet gold that are finely decorated with chevrons, ridges and dots. They were made between 2400 BC - 1800 BC. The Sundisc Collection brings these delicate ancient pieces to a modern and wearable context. Disc diameter 2cm. Snake chain L 45m (18").
