The Sundisc Collection, commissioned by the National Museum to Breda Haugh, Dublin jeweller and designer, is made from sterling silver and assayed at Dublin Castle. The inspiration comes from the Early Bronze Age sun discs that can be seen in our Irelands Gold exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology. Here you can see the this circular discs of sheet gold that are usually found in pairs and are finely decorated with chevrons, ridges and dots. They were made between 2400 - 1800BC. The Sundisc Collection by Breda Haugh brings these delicate ancient pieces to a modern and wearable context. Disc diameter 2cm. Snake chain L 45m (18").
